Final Year Research based Project's Abstract
Mind-Machine Interface
ABSTRACT
The idea behind this project is to build a
communication bridge between human brain and the physical devices, decoding the
silent thoughts and messages from human brain where a person can
experience the power of thoughts to control devices without requiring any
physical input from the user. Brainwaves are produced by synchronized
electrical pulses from masses of neurons communicating with each other which
can be utilized to drive distinctive machines. BCI can be useful in providing
direct communication and control between the human brain and physical devices
and overall improvement of human thought concentration. The framework involves
various EEG gold cup electrodes positioned according to 10/20 placement to sense
numerous signs from scalp. Data from frontal, occipital and central lobe is
captured in the range of alpha and beta waves. The circuit comprise of 8
differential, high gain, low noise input channels, instrumentation amplifier
ADS1299 ADC and accelerometer data that removes offsets created via
movement of body, electrodes or muscles. The data is transferred via RFDuino to
processing units i.e. PC where Openbci GUI, Processing 2.2.1, OpenVibe and
MATLAB are used to analyze and translate signals into helpful commands to
trigger a machine. Filters are implemented to make signal more accurate
and readable some of them are band pass, temporal, spatial, butterworth and
notch filters. It can be modified by including more electrodes/channels so
that a better and finer raw EEG is obtained that classifies brain activity in a
more comprehensive manner. It’s an effort to enter in a world of Internet
of Everything (IoE) to achieve hands free work which can be very
helpful for disabled and physically handicapped people just with the use of
their brains.
